Bahrain’s The Merchant House launches guest chef series featuring Memis Alkan and Paulo Sanapo

Bahrain’s art-focused luxury hotel The Merchant House has launched a guest chef series, with expert Turkish and European cooks set to take over the kitchen at Indigo Terrace for five days each.

From Tuesday November 28 until Saturday December 2, the lush rooftop restaurant will welcome Chef Memis Alkan, who was spent nearly 20 years working at five-star properties
including the Marriott Hotels Group, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, and Shangri-La Hotel.

His cooking style combines traditional Turkish cuisine with a contemporary touch, reflecting his love of Mediterranean and European cuisines.

Then from Tuesday January 30 to Saturday February 3, Chef Paolo Sanapo – the Executive Sous Chef at The Mandarin Oriental Mayfair in London. will bring his culinary skills to bear.

Chef Paolo is renowned for his expertise in modern European cuisine, with his career highlights including working under Jean-Georges Vongerichten followed by a spell at Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill.

Chef Paolo’s career has taken him across the globe, with stints in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Australia.

His skills have earned him numerous accolades, including the title Best in Class in Modern European Food at the UK Hotelympia Chef’s Cooking competition and nearly a dozen awards, including two Traveler’s Choice awards.

Each chef will prepare an exciting culinary programme for their short stays, with guests invited to enjoy a signature à la carte menu on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

On Thursdays and Fridays, the experience will be enhanced with a meticulously curated 5-course set dinner along with paired wines.

On Saturdays, there will be a tasteful brunch menu, offering both alcoholic and non- alcoholic options.

For those who are unable to attend the 5-day programme, all the dishes will be available for a further four weeks on the menu at Indigo Terrace.
