Pool Terrace Executive Room at Palmyard Hotel in Bahrain

With a private space opening directly on to Palmyard Hotel’s tree-lined swimming pool, the Pool Terrace Executive Room offers all the convenience of a Bahrain resort experience without sacrificing the little luxuries that go hand-in-hand with a boutique stay.

The space is cosy but comfortable, squeezing in a plush king-size bed, sofa seating, minibar area and well-appointed bathroom complete with a large walk-in shower.

Although the décor isn’t quite as swish as the hotel’s contemporary plant-filled lobby, tucked on the edge of Adliya, the room features plenty of modern comforts including TVs with Netflix and screen sharing plus room scents by high-end Dutch fragrance firm Rituals.

The outdoor area, surrounded by a green hedge but still open enough to let in plenty of natural light throughout the day, is the ideal spot to enjoy the hotel’s exceptional breakfast – which can either be taken in the in-house restaurant space or speedily delivered to your room.

With the menu available generously until 11am each day, options include traditional favourites like granola yoghurt with fresh fruit

The true gems are local twists on classic dishes, such as the exceptionally good Levantine Eggs Benedict with paprika labneh on toasted tomato bread.

Another stand-out is the hotel’s “famous” French toast, which is made with fragrant saffron and whipped vanilla Mascarpone.

After all that indulging, dive straight into the pool just steps away to the sounds of chill beats – before relaxing on one of the contemporary sun loungers or oversized sofas dotted around the space.

The pool area, lined with tall palm trees, features touches of bohemian décor including mini modern art installations and circular mirrors that look like they have been plucked straight from Bali.

Yet while Palmyard is well within the league of international boutique properties, the hotel centres around providing a home-grown experience complete with subtle local touches.

Already tried out the hotel’s wonderful restaurants and not sure where to head for dinner?

Head to reception and chat with some of the friendly staff, many of whom are either Bahraini locals or have lived on the island for their whole lives.

Button fallen off your shirt or forgotten to iron a shirt? The hotel’s ever-ready staff will be more than happy to fix that for you.

With only 20 rooms on the property, it’s little surprise that the service is so boutique.

The staff remember your name and there’s a convivial atmosphere between guests – ranging from locals taking a staycation to visitors from around the Middle East and international holidaymakers experiencing the property’s unique blend of culture and hospitality.

For now, Bahrain’s Palmyard Hotel is a true hidden gem – but once the secret’s out, that won’t last for long.
