If you’re flying Emirates business class (or even better, first) you’re probably already aware of the incredible benefits that start well before you board the plane – from sumptuous culinary offerings in the airline’s lounges at Dubai Airport through to lie-flat beds and on-board cocktail bars.

Yet many travellers aren’t aware of another one of the perks of splurging on an upgrade that makes the journey both much quicker and more convenient for those in the know.

Just before arriving at Dubai Airport’s Terminal 3 departures area, you’ll see a sign pointing towards the VIP Terminal.

But this spot isn’t only for the rich and famous – anyone with a business class or first class ticket can gain access completely free of charge, offering a more personalized and swift service every step of the way.

There are also some other ways to pass through the VIP Terminal, which we’ll get to later in this article.

After entering the terminal, you’ll find banks of dedicated check-in desks, complete with colour-coded carpets for each travel class – the red carpet for first class and blue for business.

There are also special counters for upgrade inquiries and self check-in touch screens for a smooth and fast check-in process.

An additional perk is the mini duty-free store, exclusively for VIP terminal users, allowing travellers to shop in a less crowded and more serene environment.

Luckily, it rarely gets crowded, except for the early morning rush. Even the immigration and security process benefits from a dedicated zone and minimal queuing times.

Once you’ve cleared all the formalities, a lift will whisk you away to a tucked-away area of the main departures zone, a mere two-minute walkfrom the plush Emirates lounges.

To make your journey even more convenient, buggies are often available to shuttle you to your departure gate, which is particularly useful for faraway gates.

Not flying business or first class? There’s some good news – Emirates Skywards members of Gold tier or above can also access the terminal, even when flying on economy.

With dedicated check-in desks and immigration and security checks, the Emirates VIP Terminal offers a brilliant start to your journey. Next time you’re flying from Dubai Airport, this is a detour well worth taking.
